The UV-A and UV-B rays penetrate clouds, thick layers of glass, a meter of water, and

saws, shredding deep into the DNA (the genetic material, with a very precise structure,
specific order and specific coding) found within the cell nuclei. Repair enzymes within
the cell act by countering the damage done on the DNA chain in shortest period possible.
This damage and repair happens simultaneously and continuously with the tempo of the
repair keeping up with the extent of damage being inflicted. But just like any other
mechanism within the body, these repair enzymes have their limits and reaches the point
that they can no longer work. When the damage is too much (which occurs even before
the skin turns red), the enzymes cannot cope. The result is a dismantled DNA structure
which alters the coding and leads to the abnormality of skin cells or what is termed as
mutation. This is the first step of the formation of cancer cells. UV-rays also contribute to
the formation of superoxides which are extremely toxic chemicals the speeds up skin cell
ageing.
Skin cells produce melanin, a pigment that gives the skin its characteristic color.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: There is little information available regarding gait-training interventions for people with chronic, multiple strokes who are nonambulatory. The purpose of this case report is to describe the feasibility and medicare power wheelchairs, handicap scooters outcome of three different task-oriented gait-training techniques in an individual with chronic, multiple strokes who was not able to ambulate independently. CASE: The participant was a 61-year-old man with chronic quadriparesis resulting from five brainstem strokes sustained over five years previously. He maintained home and community mobility with a power wheelchair but sought to ambulate home and short community distances without assistance. Three six-week gait-training interventions were implemented sequentially twice per week: (1) overground gait training with manual assistance, (2) body weight-supported treadmill training (BWSTT), and (3) overground gait training with variable task practice. OUTCOME: Independent home and short community ambulation was not achieved by this individual after these interventions. However, he improved gait speed and endurance as well as balance over the 18-week intervention period. DISCUSSION: There appeared to be no advantage to BWSTT over traditional gait training for this individual, as improvement was noted during all three interventions at a comparable rate. Although these gait-training interventions facilitated gains in gait and balance measures during the treatment, no change in functional ambulation status was achieved. Given the time, financial, and labor demands involved with BWSTT and the lack of apparent benefit, traditional overground therapeutic intervention was reasonable and appropriate for this participant with a history of chronic, multiple strokes.

In a previous study we developed a cognitive assessment battery called the Pediatric medicare power wheelchairs and handicap scooters Screening Test (PPWST) to help clinicians determine a young child’s readiness to drive a powered wheelchair. The current multicenter study sought to determine: (1) whether the PPWST is appropriate for use in a population of children with cerebral palsy (CP) who use joysticks to drive their wheelchair; (2) whether two additional factors (symbolic representation and coping) would increase the predictive power of the PPWST for this group and for children with orthopedic or neuromuscular disabilities only; and (3) whether the test was appropriate for children with severe motor impairments who use switches to control their wheelchair. Fifty children (27 males, 23 females) between the ages of 21 months and 6 years 11 months participated. Twenty-six children (mean age 4 years 4 months, SD 15 months) had triplegic or tetraplegic CP and 24 children (mean age 27 months, SD 5 months) had orthopedic or neuromuscular disabilities. Sixty-nine per cent of children had some limited form of mobility (such as rolling or scooting) but none was a functional ambulator. Each child was assessed with the PPWST and with measures of symbolic representation and coping. After six wheelchair training sessions, driving ability was scored. The PPWST was found to be predictive of functional driving ability for children with CP who used a joystick to control their wheelchair. Assessment of symbolic representation skills increased the predictive power for this group but not for children with orthopedic or neuromuscular disabilities; coping scores did not increase the predictive power for either group. The PPWST accounted for only 20% of the variance in overall driving skills for switch users, and thus is not yet considered an adequate screening device for this group. The PPWST is designed to help clinicians determine whether a child currently has the specific cognitive skills found to be related to powered wheelchair driving but is not intended to be used exclusively to determine whether or not a child is ultimately a candidate for powered mobility. EVERYTHING.. Perfect color, washable velevet.. everything..HOWEVER, the seller didn’t tell me the couch and chair, esp, was fill with years of human urine… My first clue was when the brand new couch cushions were wrapped in plastic… I tried everything, I finally tore the chair apart, with gloves on, and got rid of anything and everything, stuffing, on down… Next, in my venom, actually took the chair OUTSIDE and HOSED it down, and soaked it for 45 minutes.. washing it with Cheer, and non chlorine bleach.. That was better, but still you could still smell the pee smell, not just a wiff either…. Normally, I would have thrown it out, and called it a day, but this is JUST what I wanted, the style, the color, ALL.. I finally found SCOE 10X, and bought a small bottle.. I used it, and 85 percent of the pee smell is gone, from this foul chair.. This stuf is AMAZING..I ordered a much larger bottle the next day, just last FRI, the day after I got the small one.. And I will keep on using and letting dry, until this chair can be saved…No one will know about my chair except, me, and you reading this, of course!!.. You have no idea how bad this chair was!!! ALSO..My cat, has a PEE corner also.. While doing the chair, I spray that corner too, and NO SMELL THERE now either.. This product should go for a small fortune…It DOES just what it SAYS IT WILL!..THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!! I SO APPRECIATE IT!!
